: Could anyone explain or advise me on any literature on the causes of efflorescence in masonry product.

There is much literature on the subject of efflorescence. Your best bet is to review the National Concrete
Masonry Association's TEK Notes. These TEK notes are now available online through NCMA members as well
as directly through NCMA or CMPC. The particular TEK Note that you are interesed in is TEK 8-3A (1999)
entitled "Control and removal of Efflorescence". This source not only describes the causes of efflorescence, but
also provides strategies for controlling and removal. The CMPC Website has a direct link to the NCMA website
(www.ncma.org)
