The masonry industry has developed a comprehensive guide to bracing masonry walls during construction.
Essentially the industry has created a set of rules to maintain worker safety. When a wall is first constructed and wind
speeds exceed 20mph, a safety zone equal to the height of the wall plus four feet is vacated by workers for their
safety. After a 24 hour period when the mortar and grout have set up, workers can manuever around the walls until
wind speeds exceed 35mph. Details on what type of bracing and how high a wall can be before requiring a brace,
should be determined from the manual. You can order a copy of this publication from the National Concrete Masonry
Association at www.ncma.org.
