I am seeking information on a waterproofing solution a builder gave me. When I designed my home I specified a sand cast brick for the foundation and chimney. Water is seeping through the head end of the brick, due to the dry bond between the sand on the brick and the morter. The builder's solution is 1 part Zar varnish to 1 part boiled linseed oil. I am afraid of the brick spawling, even though I live in a warm climate in Virginia. The local masonry supply suggested a siloxane 5% silicone product, but it's expensive and I'm still skeptical. Thompsons water repellent worked fine for a while, until hurricane Floyd that is. What is your impression of the contractors idea, and do you have any other suggestions.
