Sorry for the delay in my response, just got back in town. My suggestion is to use an integral water repellant rather than a sealant. Sealers although effective must be reapplied. A water based sealer will have a 1-3 year life span and a solvent based sealer a 5-7 year life span. Integral water repellants however last the life of the block. These products are polymetric admixtures blended with the concrete masonry during manufacturing. Integral water repllants allow air to pass through the block but not water. This is an important fact when considering evaporation. You should contact your local block manufacturer for a list of products. The one I am most familar with is "Dry Block" developed by the W.R. Grace company.
